This blog will show you how to apply for a CSSD verification report for your China degree certificate. The degree verification report is officially titled Online Verification Report of Higher Education Degree Certificate. Note that China higher education awards 2 types of credentials: degree certificates and graduation certificates. Center for Student Services and Development (CSSD), an institution under China’s Ministry of Education (MOE), is responsible for issuing verification reports for degree certificates, graduation certificates and transcripts issued by all China universities. CSSD receives verification applications through China Higher Education Student Information (CHSI) which is a website owned by CSSD.
On Aug. 15, 2022, CSSD replaced China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) as the authority in charge of issuing verification reports for China degree certificates. Applicants can no longer apply for degree verification with CDGDC. Click here to view the official announcement.
For a first-time applicant, the process for getting a CSSD degree verification report consists of 3 steps:
- Create a CHSI account.
- Link your degree certificate to your CHSI account.
- Request a CSSD degree verification report.
STEP 1 CREATE A CHSI ACCOUNT
1. On your internet browser, go to https://www.chsi.com.cn/. Click 学信档案 and then click 注册学信网账号.
2. Fill in the registration form and Click 立即注册.
3. For the first time login, you will be prompted to verify your identity through either CHSI APP or human customer assistance. After the identity verification is completed, you will be able to log into your new CHSI account.
STEP 2 LINK DEGREE CERTIFICATE TO CHSI ACCOUNT
1. Go to https://www.chsi.com.cn/. Click 学信档案 and then click 登录学信档案. Enter your login credentials and click 登录.
2. Hover your cursor over 高等教育信息 and click 学位信息 in the dropdown menu.
3. Click 尝试绑定学位.
4. Enter your degree certificate number and click 确定.
5. If successful, you will be able to see your 学位信息.
STEP 3 REQUEST CHINESE CSSD DEGREE VERIFICATION REPORT
1. Hover your cursor over 高等教育信息 and click 学位信息 in the dropdown menu.
2. Click 申请.
3. Set the period of validity of the verification report and click 申请.
4. Click 查看.
5. Review your CSSD degree verification report. You can also download a digital copy in PDF format by clicking on the download icon at the upper right corner. This is the end.

Hi Sanura, there are various reasons that can cause this error. One common reason is that your account personal info does not match the info your university filed with CSSD.

Is CSSD able to verify a degree and transcript issued in 1983?
Hi Sammy, it is possible to get a 1983 degree verified by CSSD. However, you may need to get an updated transcript from the university because CSSD may not agree to verify a transcript issued decades agon.

We are and academic institution trying to verify the authenticity of diploma issued in China for a Chinese citizen. However, as far as we understand, the report can be provided only to a person.
Can we access the authenticty report via chsi.com.cn or are there any other means to verify the diploma?
Hi Sergej, verification reports can only be issued to indivisuals who have created an CHSI account. However, you may verify some basic information of a graduation certificate here and degree certificate here.
HI, Thank you very much for your assistance. I was able to register successfully using a Chinese phone number, and I have completed the verification process. However, when I tried to enter my Degree Certificate code, I received the message “绑定次数已用完” .

I keep getting error for the school verification phase and now I am getting the message that there are too many verifications and this method cannot be used for verification. I use a new passport number which I renew in 2020 for registration. However, the old passport number was used to complete the master’s program. Could this be the reason why I can verify the school identity?

Hi Ali, thanks for your message. As a foreign national applicant, you can definitely use your passport instead of a China ID. Upload your leather cover of the passport in place of the National Emblem of the ID card.

How long does it take for CSSD to verify transcript?
Hi Mariia, thanks for your question. There is no fixed time frame for transcript verificaiton. It depends on when your university responds to CSSD’s verification request. If everything goes smoothly, the verification can be done within a couple of weeks.
How to change passport number on chsi account?
Unfortunately, you cannot change the passport number. The workaround is to create another account.

I’m currently on the ID verification stage where they keep telling me that I should have my First name before my last name. However when I was registering they asked me to write my name in the order it was written on my graduation certificate (which is last name then first name)
I’m trying to modify the information on my account by putting my first name then last name and I get the message that It was succesfully done but when I go back to the profile page the name is still unchanged.
What’s the solution here please? How do I successfully change the order of my full name?
Hi Sanoni, thanks for your question. I am not sure why you are unable to modify the name appearing in your CSSD account. Usually, you can change the name twice, but no more. There are two other solutions, one is contacting CSSD customer support and second you create another CSSD account.
Can you please tell me if I can verify my degree same time as my transcripts or I need to wait for the transcripts to be verified? Because I just applied for my transcripts verification and I wanted to apply for degree verification as well but when I enter my University name (Shanghai University) they tell me it’s wrong
Hi Sanoni, you can apply for both at the same time. The error with your university’s name is likely to have something to do with your name and passport number.

Hi Fred, the processing time will be about 1-3 working days for degree/graduation certificate(s) verification and about 3-4 weeks for transcript verification.
Instead of mentioning my name, the system forced me to enter the wrong name for verification. When will the surname and given name problem be solved here in mainland China for foreigners? Now I can not bind my certificate and have to wait for long again to just explian my surname and given name

Hi Pete, I came across your blog due to same verification reports required by organizations. I am in the same situation, however, I realize my degree may be linked to my old passport since I can’t get past the school verification step. Like everyone as well I used my new passport to register with a borrowed chinese friend’s phone number.
I realize my old passport has holes in it due to the fact that my country handles expired passports like that. Would it still work in the verification process if i register a new account?

Hi Ash, the expired passport shall not prevent you from getting CHSI/CSSD verification reports. You need to create an account using the passport number that is linked to your degree.
